Super Z5500 March 8, 2010 Richard. (West Midlands, England) Had these coming up to a year now, not once have I experienced any problems. When reading about these before I purchased, I was slightly worried about the fuse blowing but they have been fine. When they arrived I was surprised how heavy the box was, had to drag it in!
The sound that comes out of these through my PS3 is incredible, the bass is so powerful.
I think these are great, I would recommend these to everyone.
Great system - but ugly sub woofer March 2, 2010 Mr. S. Goodlad (Yorkshire UK) First a word about Amazon! I used the free delivery service and it told me 6 days for delivery. 2 days later at 7:30 in the morning, they were delivered by a slightly pop eyed delivery man (the weight of the box lol) I can't fault amazon on delivery.
You will have read all the 'amazing' 'brilliant' comments - so I shall take it that you already know these are a fantastic 5:1 surround sound kit.
But just how good they are - takes a while to appreciate. I do think some reviewers don't know too much about setting them up correctly.
I am using a quality optical digital lead for the sound input and nothing else. This comes from my 'cable' box.
It would seem to me that each movie or program producer have their own idea on surround levels. And so constant adjusting of the sound levels is needed between different programs.
This is no hardship, the remote control does this and you can see a bar graph for each speaker etc.
I watched #and listened of course# to the movie Apacolypto and set the surround up for this movie. I am not a fan of 'loud is good' but I want clear high tones and solid base without distortion or vibration of everything in the house.
Let me tell you, I was sat in the middle of that jungle with rain falling all around me and the beat of the jungle drums was crisp and moving. The thunder rolled from one side of the room to the back as if I were in a real thunder storm.
I also watched 'saving private ryan' for the opening beach scenes. I can only say Wow. Wow because of the excellent sound technicians work. You would be sure this was a 7:1 sound system because the bullets and ricochets bounced off the middle of the walls between front and back speakers. It really was total immersion.
I have never watched as many movies since I got this system. They add a new fantastic dimension to your viewing pleasure.
My only nit-pick, and it is small, is I don't like the look of the sub woofer - it's a plain square black box and you can't hide it because the control cable from the ... controller is too short and you need to see that for the remote.

this system is without doubt truely awesome, this is a late review as i've now had it for around a year and can honestly say its the best £200 ive ever spent, thats how much it was back then..the sound from it is unreal for something that is only 500w it certainly packs a punch infact i'd go as far to say its quite frightening when you 1st hear it, ive got quite a large living room and you'll be lucky if i even have the volume an 8th of the way up honest you have to hear it to believe it..even if you do have the thing going full blast you won't get any distortion either which is good if you listen to dance music like me..i bought this for my ps3 and its easy to connect up all you need is an optical cable and away you go,,once you've changed the sound setting output in the ps3 menu that is...you'll have already read that the subwoofer is a monster of a box and its right the thing is absolutely huge and quite heavy aswell, i have mine in the alcove next to the fire with the tv on the other side.. and it looks ok fits in quite well, but if you don't have a lot of room then you'll find it very hard to hide it but this shouldn't really put you off, the main unit which is attached to the sub woofer has a cable of roughly 1.5 mtrs so the only draw back is it has to be quite close to whatever you're connecting it to,however saying that i have 2meter optical cable which combined with the unit gives me a length of 3.5 meters. which is enough for me which means i can have my ps3 in the corner and have the woofer in the oppisite corner of the room, when i'm not using it i just simply unplug the optical cable and move the unit so its just sitting on top of the subwoofer. simples.....also i've read that people have had problems with their fuses blowing, i bought a pack of 10 when i bought the system just incase and after a year i can honestly say i still have all 10 in the box as the fuse has never blown once.
all in all i rate this 10/10...if i had to be picky the only real problem is you can't alter the volume for each individual speaker, speaker volumes can still be changed but only front together and rear ones together..subwoofer volume can also be altered,,not really a major problem but thought i'd still better mention it..hope you found this review useful....now go and buy it :-)
Logitech Z5500 - Highly Recommended! December 29, 2009 Andrew Forbes (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this system just over a year ago from Amazon for £175 including delivery. This arrived very quickly and in perfect condition.
I had researched different brands and models, but the reviews for this product both on Amazon and many other sites overwhelmingly endorsed this product even though Logitech had newer models available.
Before buying this system, you really will need to factor in the size of the sub-woofer box. This is huge, and will be noticeable - especially as attention is drawn to it by the chest pounding room rattling, sublime bass tones that it emits. Take note of the measurements, and plan where you will put it before purchasing. The control module also has a fixed length cable connection to the sub (around 2m length thick cable), and you will be limited to where this can go - although it has a remote controller.
I actually use mine as a main living room home theatre system, although this has been primarily designed as a computer sound system. My girlfriend freaked out about the size of the sub being in the lounge, and also the size of the surround speakers (which, let's say are 'manly' as opposed to being dainty), but I managed to fit the sub in a corner between a sofa and wall, and put a 'pretty cushion' on top to disguise it a little - just to appease her, and keep it from immediate view. I connect to my LCD TV via an optical cable. I can therefore play whatever I'm watching, including Sky, PS3, Xbox 360, DVDs etc through my Logitech via a single connection.
As you will have seen from the other reviews, the sound quality is truly amazing. No bass is too deep for the system to handle, and it is unfazed by multiple rapid note change where some systems will struggle with sub response.
I also connect my laptop and now use this as my main audio system. My dedicated hi-fi simply can't match the sound quality and will eventually be sold off!
I would say the Z5500 may be more suited to fans of bass heavy, harder music, but that's just my opinion, and is exactly what I tend to listen to.
The only issue I have had is that the LCD backlight on the control module has gone. But this hasn't diminished my total enjoyment of a fabulous system.
Also bear in mind that most of the far more expensive home theatre systems will not match the raw power and sound quality of this system.
Buy one!

First thing you need to know is that you are not supposed to switch on and off the main switch at the back of the sub. You will blow the fuse. Just use the standby instead. The best thing about this is the ease of use.
It's build quality is better than any other pc speaker system I've seen. Reports of muddy bass are not true. I would have returned it if I wasn't happy.
Glad I took the chance on this.
