Great quality - cheap price February 11, 2010 AndyD (Berkshire, UK) This is a great piece of kit and I bought it as I had already heard the quality of the creature IIs but just liked the look of these better. The bass is great and the sound is consistent whether the music is played at a high or low volume. I would recommend these to anyone who wants great PC/MP3 speakers or for a cheap alternative for watching films etc.
Great computer speakers/hi-fi replacement speakers July 14, 2009 V. Stacey (Coventry, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I brought these speakers to sit on top of my computer desk to look good and sound good. They are great value even though they may be more expensive than lesser speakers! They dont look like traditional speakers but they look cool and the sound is great. We use them to fill the living room with sound for parties and even at high volumes there is no distortion and they go louder than any one should need. The sub woofer is great. I worried that my monitor might bounce with the force but it's just right, providing great bass without bad vibrations. They dont take up too much space, at the moment mine are discretely placed under my monitor but they will be a feature item should you want that too. I have also plugged them into a portable cd player (how old fashioned of me) and the quality and power are great so I can not see there being any problems using these as mp3 speakers, imagine them sitting on your coffee table, lovely. Jbl have several colours to suit your style.
Beautiful :) March 12, 2009 Ms. L. V. M. Brinton (UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I originally wanted the teal ones, black if those were unavailable or white as third choice. I ended up with white ones, hoping they wouldn't look tacky as some things do...
Well, I am glad I got white, they are lovely and match my white MacBook and mouse pad very well indeed, now I think white was the best colour for me.
The small size of the two satellite speakers is incredibly useful, even on a large desk. I am always moving things around and re arranging. The wire attached to them is a bit annoying because it's not perfectly flexible and the units are quite light, so it can be hard to get them exactly where you want - this is the reason I gave 4 rather than 5 stars.
The buttons on the sub are a bit fiddly, but once you've set it up this is not a problem.
When I first used the set up, I was disappointed with the echoey, tinny sound - they seemed broken. However, I looked again at the connections. When you plug the speakers in you need to push quite hard, the hole there is a bit on the small size and it looks properly connected even if it's not.
After I sorted that out, the sound is amazing. They are very powerful speakers for such a small size and produce very good quality sound at even a fairly high volume, without distortion that I've noticed. I listen to a fairly varied range of music and they have yet to disappoint. Of course, it always helps to make sure the source of the sound is good quality as well.
I've seen some reviews criticising the volume control. This does take a bit of getting used to, as there isn't a real button there but some kind of sensor. If you have trouble, try different approaches. I usually pinch around the "button" and back of the petal lightly and that seems to work. While this is annoying at first, the alternative is bulky buttons and/or an annoying separate control unit, so I prefer this approach.
Overall I am very happy with these :)

After taking them out of the box and reading the instructions I powered them up and pressed play on my Ipod. The sound quality was poor and after 5 minutes the left speaker stopped working. After much connection checking etc, I found the unit was at fault and sent them back. They also looked cheap and the thick speaker cables are cumbersome and cluttered my desktop.
I replaced them with some edirol ma15d speakers which are superb.
2 stars for design.
awesome little speakers January 22, 2009 G. Cooper (Birmingham, England) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I needed some speakers for my Macbook, but didnt want large speakers taking up much room.
These are small enough to perch on the edge at the back of my desk, and the subwoofer sits on the floor under my desk.
the sound is very clear through the speakers, and the subwoofer level is easy to adjust depending on what you are driving the speakers with, speech, film or music.
im really please with the purchase and would recommend them to anyone who wants good everyday speakers for use with their computer/mp3 player
