3 out of 5 stars Good if you want bass   August 24, 2008

I got this as an upgrade to some horrible cheap PC speakers I got for a fiver a while back. Obviously, they are a massive improvement on that.

But I am a little disappointed in the sound quality. I like to listen to music on my PC and I'm a little bit of an audiophile (but not to the extent that I need professional help), and I suppose I was expecting more from this set up.

Essentially what you have are two mediocre speakers for mids and highs and an absurdly aggressive bass "bin" that goes under your desk or wherever. Well, if you like bass you'll love this - the bass is earth (or carpet) shaking and doesnt disappoint. Unfortunately the rest of the sound is fairly underwhelming and lacking in presence or definition. Perhaps they are just overwhelmed by the bass? Playing games is great as the sounds of explosions and what-have-you are awesome but for music fidelity I think I probably should have gone for something else - maybe a better quality 2.0 setup.

Another little niggle is that there is no headphone socket if you want to stop upsetting the neighbours for a while.

Having said all that, they are great for the price. They are very solidy built and look very minimalist and sleek. They probably aren't what I really wanted but they are very good at what they do and the quality is reassuring.
