big sound/little space April 29, 2010 Parmanova BLADE (Sheffield) This is an enjoyable and a functional product. Happiness, happiness,it's the greatest gift that you possess. This speaker system along with my music and my radio ,has made me happy.
Great Design - Stunning Sound! April 3, 2010 G. Peake (Wales) I wasn't sure at first if I liked the look of these speakers but the style has grown on me and they fit in nicely with my Mac Pro, the finish also matches exactly the new black Wacom tablets, the only thing that lets the design down are the two gold embossed logos on the front of each unit, what a pity AL should achieve a good level of style but let themselves down through corporate promotion. The build quality is superb, nothing to fault here and a big plus point are the power and volume controls on top of the right hand speaker, so good to have real illuminated buttons to press as opposed to control being hidden in software.
The sound is just fantastic, I have no problem with the bass or high level sounds, in fact I find I'm using my home audio system much less these days. One thing that isn't mentioned in many reviews about the sound quality are the equalizer controls - I use iTunes to control in a custom zig zag shape starting at 32, one mark off the top, down to 0 at 250, up to one off the top at 2K and down again to 0 at 16K, it's a personal thing and almost any sound can be achieved so I can't understand why people say they have sent them back?
These replaced a new set of LaCie firewire speakers which I can only describe as pathetic!
Such a shame. December 26, 2009 Laurence Bickerton (UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
With lots of bass, these speakers may appear good. You may think they're good because they look well designed and have a reasonable frequency response. You won't be impressed after too long.
At first, i was happy with them, with their large amount of bass creating a well rounded sound to the bottom of the scale. However, later that day, my liking of these speakers began to wear off.
I'm a massive music fan... i have lots of family in the music production industry too, and i listen to lots of different genres of music. At first i liked the way that everything shook a little, because of the shear bass power of these speakers, but then I realised - these are lacking almost completely in the high sound end. That means, when listening to music, i can hear the drums nicely, along with guitar and bass, but as soon as some piano comes in it's almost impossible to hear, if not completely missing.
I am going to return these speakers due to their extreme lack of ability to produce full sound and buy a new set with tweeters. Basically, these speakers have big sub-woofers (low sounds, bass) medium sized squakers (mid range sounds) and NO TWEETERS (high sounds).
These are the business! October 20, 2009 Gerry A (York, UK) These are the perfect speakers except for one problem... the bass is stunning, but it WILL carry through the wall to the office next door! Regardless, the sound is terrific, and I was really taken aback by just how good these are. The volume control on the speakers is simple and easy to use, setup is straightforward, and the results are worth it.
Style over substance July 17, 2009 MysteryBee (London) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
OK, they look pretty cool - but if you want to actually listen to music don't choose them. At anything over moderate volume, any bass in the music causes the whole unit to distort and rattle unbearably. They're just not large or heavy enough.
I sent mine back and got the FX4021 set instead, which has a proper subwoofer and sounds a whole lot better.
